Securing Government Incentives & Grants

While working at the Massachusetts Office of Business Development, Marty Walsh was instrumental in creating a successful strategy to locate the National Renewable Energy Lab’s large wind blade testing facility in the Commonwealth. After the facility was designated for Massachusetts, Marty worked with the Massachusetts congressional delegation to secure $25 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy to build the facility in Charlestown.

A Massachusetts non-profit was looking for government incentives to expand their facility and increase their national exposure. Marty developed an integrated state and federal strategy to capture a $2 million American Recovery Act grant that was instrumental to the organization’s expansion, and worked with the state’s congressional delegation to organize a forum in Washington, D.C., where the non-profit was awarded a Johns Hopkins award for service.

A small nanotechnology company was looking for non-diluted funding and connections to the U.S. Department of Defense. Marty guided the company to funding from a Massachusetts quasi–governmental agency and orchestrated a successful meeting with the top scientist and consultant in nanotechnology at the U.S. Army Medical Command, Fort Detrick, Maryland.
